The votes are in, and for the second straight year Small Town Nation has emerged as the crowd favorite at the Lilac Bloomsday Run. Situated on the median at the bottom of Pettet Drive (Doomsday Hill), the bandâs mix of punk rock and pop punk proved popular with enough voters to earn them the top spot in the eighth annual Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest.
Â
Small Town Nationâs victory came in spite of strong showings by Adrienne Bousquet and Rhythm Envy, who finished in second and third. Bousquetâs advertised âSequins and Sinatraâ performance at Lindeke and Gardner was popular with many voters, while bucket drummers Rhythm Envy were a hit just after the turnoff from Government Way onto Ft. George Wright.
Â
Whatever their preference in entertainment, Bloomsday runners, joggers, walkers and wheelers seemed to enjoy the performances, as they cast 1,713 votes this year forthe 35 performers on the course. That was over 600 more votes than were cast in the 2010 contest.
Â
âWe had great weather again this year and more performers than weâve ever had,â said Bloomsday Board Member Dori Whitford, who along with volunteer Laurel Warner organized the competition. âAnd almost every performer along the route earned a fair number of votes.â
Â
The thirty-five bands scheduled along the route this year included (in order by location along the course) Cathedral Choir of Our Lady of Lourdes, Blame The Average (Teen Rock Band), Blues On The Fringe (Acoustic-Guitar & Native American Flute), Too Many Men (Popular Variety), Accordion Joe (50âs & 60âs Accordion), Union Street (Folk/Rock), Good Ole Stuff (Bass & Accordion Oldies), Tim Blood & The Gutpanthers (Power Pop/Pop Punk), Specialty Music (Accordion/DJ), Crimson Resolve (Rock/Alternative), Pretty Arcade (Pop/Rock), Rhythm Envy (Bucket Drummers), Loose Ends (Variety), Spokane Christian Church Band (Christian Pop/Rock), Sunrise Praise (Contemporary Christian), Troubadour (Rock/Pop Covers), Angela Marie Project (All Original Electro Acoustic Folk Rock), The Sherpas (Alternative Rock), Small Town Nation (Punk Rock/Pop Punk), Firecreek (Country/50âs/60âs/Classic Rock), Not For Now (Rock), Chris Ellenberger (50's, 60's, Country, Blues, Classic Rock), SpoCon (Sci-Fi Masquerade & Music), The Danger Bears (Alternative Indie Pop), Adrienne Bousquet (Sequins & Sinatra), Sandpoint H.S. Steel Pan Band (Steel Pan Band), Vibe (Rhythm & Blues), Uncle Miltieâs Grass Menagerie (Bluegrass/Americana), Random Generation (Classic Rock), The Donner Party Band (Acoustic/Electric Classic Rock), The Katz Band (Pop/Rock), Beyond Moral (Rock Band), Green Light Go (Ska/Punk), Quarter Monkey (Original/Progressive Rock), and Finish Line Band (Christian Rock).
Â
Small Town Nation will earn the top prize of $500 in this yearâs Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest, while Adrienne Bousquet and Rhythm Envy will get the 2nd and 3rd place awards of $300 and $200. Additional cash rewards will be paid out through random drawings.
