Spokane, WAāSpokaneĀ streets may be covered with snow and ice, but optimists know spring isnāt far off, and neither is the 33rd annual Lilac Bloomsday Run. To help fortify New Yearās resolutions to get in shape, early bird registration for Bloomsday is now open at www.bloomsdayrun.org. Those who sign up by February 15th will have a chance to win a trip for two to one ofSeattleās most popular races, theĀ St. Patrickās Day DashĀ on March 15, 2009.

āAt this time last year the Inland Northwest was struggling through a winter as challenging as this one,ā said Bloomsday Race Director Don Kardong. āAs a result, by the time May rolled around people were really in the mood to get outside and enjoy spring weather. I suspect this year will be the same, so itās not too early to start thinking about signing up for Bloomsday.ā

Everyone who enters Bloomsday online through February 15th will be automatically entered in the St. Patrickās Day Dash drawing. The winner will receive roundtrip airfare for two fromĀ SpokaneĀ toĀ Seattle, two nights (double occupancy) at the Oāfficial Hotel, the Hampton Inn at theĀ SeattleĀ Center, and free entry into the run.

Officially known as Henry Weinhardās St. Patrickās Day Dash, the event is described as āa nearly 3Ā¾-mile jaunt aroundSeattleĀ to celebrate the arrival of spring and the Irish in us all.ā Entrants are encouraged to ārun, walk, jog or crawlā the distance. This is the 25th annual Dash, which drew over 15,000 entrants last year. Prizes are awarded for āBest Wearinā oā the Greenā and āMost Outrageous Costume.ā

Bloomsday ā09 will be Sunday,Ā May 3, 2009. Full details of the 33rd annual event will be released in early March, at which time printed entry forms will be available at locations throughout the Inland Northwest.
