Helpers sought for T-shirt distribution and assisted wheelchairs

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Spokane, WA—With a little over a week until the 32nd running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run, organizers are eagerly seeking volunteers to help with T-shirt distribution, as well as entrants willing to push wheelchair participants.

“The success of Bloomsday is totally dependent on the support of nearly 5,000 volunteers,” said Bloomsday Race Director Don Kardong. “Most of our volunteer positions don’t require much, if any, prior experience, but it’s crucial that we fill all open positions to make sure things proceed smoothly before, during and after the run.”

Those interested in helping at T-shirt Distribution are encouraged to log on to Bloomsday’s web site (www.bloomsdayrun.org), click the “Volunteers” button, then “T-Shirt Distribution” on the drop-down menu. A description of what’s involved is listed there along with a link to the individual responsible for that area. Anyone willing to push wheelchair entrants who need assistance should contact the Bloomsday office, 838-1579, ext. 10.

“Volunteers for T-Shirt Distribution should log on to the web site and then click on that category,” said Kardong. “Those willing to push wheelchair participants should call our office.”

This year’s Bloomsday is scheduled for Sunday, May 4th. Those who haven’t yet signed up can do so online for $30.00 (plus processing fee) until April 27th. Late registration will also be available during normal Check-In hours at the new Convention Center on Friday, May 2nd, from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 3rd from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Race entry is NOT available on Sunday, May 4th.
