Spokane, WAâThere are still four months remaining before the big day, but Bloomsday organizers are already hard at work scheduling bands along the route of the 2006 Lilac Bloomsday Run. Entertainers who would like to perform along the 7-1/2-mile course on May 7 should fill out an application and return it to the Bloomsday office by Tuesday, March 14.
Â
âWeâve spent the last two years enhancing entertainment along the route,â said Bloomsday Course Entertainment Director Dori Robertson, âand this has become one of the most popular features of Bloomsday. Our entrants really enjoy the entertainment, and more and more of them are voting online afterward for their favorites.â
Â
Anyone with a song to sing, dance to perform, or any other sort of entertainment to share on race day is invited to apply. Forms are available at the Bloomsday office (1610 W. Riverside), online (www.bloomsdayrun.org) or by contacting the Bloomsday office (838-1579).
Â
Organizers will review applications and select performers by March 1 for the available spaces along the course. Performers must be officially signed up to be eligible to win the 2006 Bloomsday Top Performer award, which will be determined by race entrants who log on and vote after the race. The top three bands will receive prize money of $500, $300, and $150.
Â
Last yearâs winners, out of over 25 participating groups, were the performing troupe Red Hot Mamas, followed by country music band Dusty and classic rockers PF Flyers. Those three groups were also the top three performing groups in 2004. Over 700 votes were cast in 2005, over twice as many as in the previous year.
Â
For non-performers, sign-up for the 30th annual Lilac Bloomsday Run will begin online on January 21st at www.bloomsdayrun.org.
