Spokane, WAâFitness enthusiasts who are looking for a little boost in their mid-winter motivation may want to consider signing up early for the 2005 Lilac Bloomsday Run. Online registration for Bloomsday â05 is now open, and entrants who sign up in January will have a chance to win a trip for two to one of southern Californiaâs most popular races, the Carlsbad 5000.
Â
âWe wanted to get people thinking about Bloomsday early this year,â said Bloomsday Race Director Don Kardong. âAnd we thought the opportunity to take a nice trip to southern California might just do that.â
Â
That opportunity will be in the form of a drawing for a trip for two to the 20th annual Carlsbad 5000, which will be held on April 3 in the seaside village of Carlsbad, about 20 miles north of San Diego. Everyone who enters Bloomsday online from now until January 31st will automatically be entered in the drawing.
Â
The Carlsbad 5000, one of the best known road races in the United States, is also one of the fastest, with 14 world records set on the course during its 20-year history. Carlsbad is not just for the fleet of foot, though, as the event stages nine separate 5-K races, a Health & Fitness Expo, beer garden, and post-race party by the sea. The winner of Bloomsdayâs early registration drawing will receive roundtrip airfare for two from Spokane to San Diego on Southwest Airlines, two-day rental car, two nights double occupancy in Carlsbad, free entry into the Carlsbad 5000, and VIP passes for special viewing and hospitality privileges. More information on the Carlsbad 5000 is available at www.eliteracing.com.
Â
Bloomsday â05 will be Sunday, May 1, 2005. The on-time entry fee is $10.00, one of the lowest fees in the nation for a major running event. Printed entry forms will be available beginning March 1 at locations throughout the Inland Northwest.
